Heat Pump Grants: £7,500 and £9,000 BUS Guide

The key points

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is installer-led. Eligible air-to-water installations can receive £7,500, while qualifying off-gas properties heated by oil or LPG may receive £9,000 until 31 March 2027. The installer must be MCS certified and the grant is passed on as an upfront discount.

£9,000Eligible off-gas properties replacing oil or LPG, available until 31 March 2027.

How the Boiler Upgrade Scheme works

  1. Contact an MCS-certified installer and confirm the property and technology are eligible.
  2. Agree a quotation showing the grant as an upfront discount.
  3. The installer applies to Ofgem on the property owner’s behalf.
  4. Ofgem contacts the owner for consent and checks eligibility.
  5. The installation is completed, commissioned and certified before the voucher is redeemed.

Important eligibility points

  • The property must be in England or Wales.
  • The owner must be replacing eligible fossil-fuel or electric heating.
  • Most new builds, social housing and systems replacing existing low-carbon heating are excluded.
  • Hybrid fossil-fuel heat-pump systems are not eligible.
  • The £9,000 uplift requires an off-gas property replacing oil or LPG.
